Salmon fishing will open in the Hoodsport Hatchery Zone

September 14, 2015

Action: Open salmon fishing in the Hoodsport Hatchery Zone, consistent with regular season rules found in the Fishing in Washington, Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet.

Effective Date: 12:01 a.m., Sept. 15, 2015, until further notice.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Hoodsport Hatchery Zone waters within a 2,000 foot arc seaward of the yellow marker buoys at the mouth of Finch Creek.

Reason for action: Chinook broodstock collection efforts at the Hoodsport Hatchery are quickly approaching the goal (~2,000). As of Sept. 8, roughly 1,900 Chinook broodstock have been trapped at the hatchery, leading tribal and state fisheries managers to expect the collection goal will be met.

Other information: Hoodsport ADA-accessible fishing platform is only open to anglers with disabilities following the same regulations for the Hoodsport Hatchery Zone as found in the Fishing in Washington, Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet. Other waters in Marine Area 12 remain unaffected by this rule change.
