The Skagit River to close for sockeye

June 4, 2020

Action: Closes fishing for or retaining sockeye salmon

Effective date: June 16 through July 15, 2020

Species affected: Sockeye salmon.

Location: Skagit River (Skagit Co.) from the highway 536 bridge (Memorial Highway Bridge) in Mt Vernon to Gilligan Creek.

Rule: Closed to fishing for or retaining salmon.

Reason for action: The preseason forecast is not sufficient to support a recreational river fishery for sockeye salmon. Baker Lake sockeye fisheries have been prioritized over in river fisheries based on angler input, and any recreational fishing for Baker sockeye in 2020 will occur in Baker Lake should sufficient numbers of sockeye return.

Additional information: Gamefish fisheries will remain open. A Baker Lake sockeye opportunity will be considered if broodstock goals are meeting objectives.

Information contact: Mill Creek Regional Office, 425 775-1311
