Sport clam and oyster season re-opened at Penrose Point State Park

February 15, 2011

Action: The sport clam and oyster fishing season at Penrose Point State Park will open on March 1, 2011.

Effective date: March 1, 2011 until further notice.

Species affected: All clams and oysters.

Location: Penrose Point State Park. The park is located in Pierce County on Carr Inlet.

Reason for action: Surveys indicate that the clam and oyster populations will support a three-month fishery. The park tidelands were closed in 2010 due to overharvest in 2009.

Information contact: Alex Bradbury, WDFW Point Whitney Shellfish Laboratory, (360) 586-1498, ext. 208.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
