Sport clam season modified at Brown Point (DNR 57-B)

March 11, 2003

Action: The 2003 sport clam fishing season on Brown Point (DNR 57-B), originally scheduled for January 1 to June 30, has been changed to January 1 to April 15.

Effective Date: Immediately through April 15.

Species affected: All clams, except for razor clams.

Location: Brown Point (DNR 57-B).

Reason for action: The 2003 clam quota on Brown Point (DNR 57-B) has been reduced by 25 percent in accordance with state/tribal management agreements because no clam population survey could be conducted in 2002. In addition, the sport quota of clams was exceeded in 2002, further reducing the 2003 sport share on this beach. A reduced season is necessary to avoid over harvest of the 2003 sport share. This regulation change was approved by the Fish & Wildlife Commission at its February 2003 meeting.
