Sport clam season opens at Dosewallips State Park

February 18, 2009

Action: The sport clam fishing season at Dosewallips State Park is opened March 1 through October 31, 2009.

Effective date: March 1, 2009 until further notice.

Species affected: All clams.

Location: Dosewallips State Park, located in Jefferson County on the west side of Hood Canal.

Reason for action: Last year's clam season at Dosewallips State Park opened on April 1, but surveys show an increase in the clam population due to both natural recruitment and enhancement with Manila clams by WDFW. This extended season was approved by the Fish & Wildlife Commission at their February 6-7, 2009 meeting.

Information contact: Alex Bradbury, WDFW Point Whitney Shellfish Laboratory, (360) 586-1498, ext. 208.
