Sport sturgeon retention season
closes for the John Day Pool

Action: Closes retention of sturgeon in the John Day pool.

Effective dates: Saturday June 29, 2013 until further notice.

Species affected: White sturgeon

Location: The Columbia River and tributaries from John Day Dam upstream to McNary Dam (John Day Reservoir).

Reason for action: The harvest guideline of 500 fish is expected to be reached.

Other information: Catch-and-release fishing for sturgeon will continue to be allowed. The section of the Columbia River and tributaries between The Dalles Dam and John Day Dam will remain open to sturgeon retention until harvest guidelines are reached. The spawning sanctuaries from McNary Dam downstream 1.5 miles to the HWY 82 Bridge and from John Day Dam downstream 2.4 miles to the Rufus grain elevator are closed to all sturgeon fishing through July 31.
