Steelhead retention will remain closed in the lower reaches of the Wind, White Salmon, and Klickitat rivers

August 29, 2019

Action: The lower reaches of the Wind, White Salmon, and Klickitat rivers will remain closed to the retention of hatchery steelhead.

Effective date: Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, 2019.

Species affected: Steelhead.

Locations:

Wind River: from the mouth to 400 feet downstream of Shipherd Falls fish ladder

White Salmon River: from the mouth to the county road bridge below the former location of the power house

Klickitat River: from the mouth to Fisher Hill Bridge

Reason for action: The Columbia River upriver steelhead run-size was recently downgraded. Some Washington hatcheries are projecting broodstock collection shortfalls. Closing retention of hatchery steelhead in these tributary reaches will help to provide additional fish for hatchery broodstock and provide future fishing opportunity.

Additional information: All other permanent rules remain in effect. Please refer to the 2019-2020 Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for additional information.
