Sturgeon retention fishery will reopen early from
Bonneville Dam downstream to Wauna power lines

Action: Allow retention of white sturgeon on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only, 42 inch minimum size limit. Release sturgeon on other days.

Effective dates: 12:01 a.m., Aug. 1 through Sept. 30, 2008.

Species affected: White sturgeon

Location: The Columbia River from Bonneville Dam downstream to the Wauna powerline crossing at Rivermile 40 near Cathlamet.

Reason for action: Significant numbers of harvestable white sturgeon remain on the guideline for the Columbia River above the Wauna power lines, providing for additional opportunity for white sturgeon retention in this area. The season modification was adopted at the joint Washington-Oregon public hearing on July 24, 2008.

Other information: The October - December fishery above the Wauna powerlines remains unchanged, allowing white sturgeon retention only on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from October 1 through December 31, 2008. White sturgeon retention in the Columbia River downstream from the Wauna powerlines is allowed on Saturday, July 26. This section of the Columbia River will remain closed to retention from July 27 through December 31, 2008.
The retention of green sturgeon is prohibited by permanent rule.

Information contact: Region 5, (360) 696-6211.
