Sturgeon retention season in Bonneville Pool
scheduled for June 22 rescinded
Action: Retention of white sturgeon is prohibited effective Saturday, June 22 (rescinds the second day of the previously adopted June 21-22 retention season).

Effective dates: 12:01 a.m. June 22, 2013, until further notice.

Species affected: White Sturgeon

Location: The Columbia River and tributaries from Bonneville Dam upstream to The Dalles Dam.

Reason for action: A two-day retention season in Bonneville Pool was scheduled for June 21-22. Angling effort and catch have exceeded expectations and the catch guideline of 1,100 white sturgeon is projected to be reached by Saturday, June 22. Retention of white sturgeon is allowed on Friday, June 21. The legal size for white sturgeon in this area is 38-inches minimum and 54-inches maximum fork length. This season modification was adopted June 18, 2013 at the joint Washington-Oregon public hearing.

Other information: This area will remain closed to white sturgeon retention through Dec. 31, 2013. The section of the Columbia River between The Dalles Dam and McNary Dam remains open to sturgeon retention until respective harvest guidelines in each pool are reached. Catch and release of sturgeon is allowed between Bonneville and McNary dams, except spawning sanctuaries below John Day Dam and below McNary Dam remain closed to all sturgeon angling through July 31.
