Summer 2014 recreational crab seasons have been set for Puget Sound

Action:

Recreational crab fishing will open on Sunday, June 1, in Marine Area 13. Crab fishing will be open seven days a week through Monday Sept. 1, 2014.
Recreational crab fishing will open on Thursday July 3, 2014 in Marine Areas 4 east of the Bonilla-Tatoosh line, 5, 6, 8-1, 8-2, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Crab fishing will be open Thursdays through Mondays only through Monday Sept. 1, 2014.

Recreational crab fishing will open on Thursday July 17, 2014 in Crab Sub-Area 7 South. Crab fishing will be open Thursdays through Mondays only through Monday Sept. 29, 2014.

Recreational crab fishing will open on Friday Aug. 15, 2014 in Crab Sub-Area 7 North. Crab fishing will be open Thursdays through Mondays only through Monday Sept. 29, 2014.

Species affected: Dungeness and red rock crab.

Location: The Marine Areas within Puget Sound.

Reason for action: The season start date and weekly schedule in Marine Area 13 was adjusted to provide additional harvest opportunity in the summer months. Start dates for the other Marine Areas are similar to last season, with adjustments to reflect when closed days (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) occur in 2014.

Other information: Any winter harvest opportunities will be announced after summer harvest estimates are made.
