July 16, 2015
Action: Change size restrictions and daily bag limits on rainbow trout; add increased limit on brook trout.
Effective dates: July 18, 2015, until further notice.
Species affected: Rainbow trout and brook trout.
Location: Ross Lake (Whatcom County)
Size and daily limits: Rainbow trout, one fish per day, minimum size 16 inches. Brook trout, five fish per day, no minimum size.
Reasons for action: Recruitment of rainbow trout has been poor in recent years. Rainbows are growing faster than in the past. As a result, the 13-inch minimum size restriction no longer protects first-time spawners, resulting in anglers harvesting fish that had not had an opportunity to reproduce. The minimum size limit needs to be adjusted accordingly. Brook trout are a non-native species and harvest is encouraged.
Other information: This action will align Washington State fishing regulations on Ross Lake with those in effect in British Columbia on this trans-boundary lake. Selective gear rules are in effect.
