Upper Columbia River summer Chinook fishery closes July 3

June 29, 2007

Action: Closes the on-going Columbia River summer Chinook fishery above Bonneville Dam.

Effective date: 12:01 a.m., July 3, 2007.

Species affected: Adult Chinook salmon.

Location: Bonneville Dam upstream to Priest Rapids Dam.

Reason for action: Recreational fisheries below Priest Rapids Dam were allocated 1,650 summer Chinook for harvest, based on the pre-season forecast. High catch projections indicate the recreational guideline has been met and additional fish may not be available, as dam passage is slightly less than expected.

Other Information: The area below Bonneville Dam closed June 30. Fall season fisheries begin August 1.

Information contact: Region 5 Office at (360) 696-6211.
