Wenatchee River closing for salmon fishing

June 21, 2023

Action: Closes salmon fishing.

Effective date: One hour after official sunset on Friday, June 23, 2023.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Wenatchee River (Chelan County) from the Highway 2 Bridge crossing the Wenatchee River in Leavenworth to the upstream point of the confluence with the Icicle River and from that point to a line perpendicular with the Wenatchee River to the opposite riverbank (adjacent to the Leavenworth Golf Course).

Reason for action: In-season catch-and-release estimates indicate impact limits on wild spring Chinook will have been met at the end of the day on June 23.

Additional information: The Icicle River is still scheduled to remain open until June 30, 2023 but could potentially close earlier if ESA impacts rates are met, the non-treaty harvest share is met, and/or if additional broodstock are needed. Anglers are advised to check the WDFW emergency rules webpage for updates.

Information contact: Travis Maitland, District 7 Fish Biologist, 509-665-3337 or Chad Jackson, Region 2 Fish Program manager, 509-754-4624.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
