Wind River fisheries return to permanent rule

June 26, 2024

Action: Restores the salmon and steelhead angling rules for the Wind River to those in the Washington Sport Fishing Rules Pamphlet; all other permanent rules remain in effect.

Effective date: June 27, 2024.

Species affected: Salmon and steelhead.

Location: Wind River (Skamania County) from the mouth to 800 yards downstream of Carson National Fish Hatchery. The mouth of the Wind River is defined by the buoy line markers south of the Highway 14 Bridge.

Reason for action: The adult salmon daily limit on the Wind River was reduced earlier in the year to help ensure the Spring Chinook broodstock collection goal for Carson National Fish Hatchery was achieved. Hatchery managers have indicated that enough broodstock have been collected to cover all hatchery programs, therefore a reduced daily limit is no longer needed.

Additional information: Anglers are reminded to check the Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for additional information.

Information contact: Matt Gardner, District Fish Biologist, 360-906-6746.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet for details on definitions and regulations.
