Explanation of size of catchable trout plants

Hatchery catchable trout plants are reported for fish 3 per pound or larger, including broodstock.  Fish released smaller than 3 fish per pound are not considered catchable size and not included in the report.

Hatchery rearing and growth are measured in fish per pound- the larger the number, the smaller the fish.  And the smaller the number, the bigger the fish.

To convert from fish per pound to pounds per fish, calculate by dividing the fish per pound by one.  For example, a release at 2.3 fish per pound equates to fish averaging 0.43 pounds each (1 ÷ 2.3 = 0.43).  Another example for fish at 0.2 fish per pound, the average weight is 5 pounds each.

Translating to approximate length in inches is tricky as length is not consistent based on weight.  Broodstock fish are generally 0.1 fish per pound, or 10 pounds each, and length varies up to approximately 30 inches.
