WDFW Beach Season Information
Clam, mussel, and oyster seasons OPEN for harvest year-round.
Please avoid trespassing on private tidelands between the Hoodsport Hatchery beach and North Hoodsport beach.
WDFW shellfish seasons indicate the specific times of year when harvesting is permitted. Before heading to the beach, please also check the Department of Health (DOH) information below which is related to health of the shellfish and may be updated daily. To harvest on this beach, it must be both during the WDFW approved season and approved by the DOH.
North Hoodsport is accessible by boat only. There is no upland access to this beach.
Not much is known about the clam populations on North Hoodsport beach, and most of the beach is rocky, but there are reports of native littleneck clams, Manila clams, and butter clams in pockets of sand and gravel substrate.
There are oysters available on this beach.
From the south (Olympia, Shelton, Portland) travel north on Highway 101 along Hood Canal. Pass through the town of Hoodsport. The southern beach boundary is about 0.4 miles north of Hoodsport Hatchery.
From the north (Port Angeles, Kingston) travel south on Highway 101 through the town of Lilliwaup and continue for another three miles. North Hoodsport beach starts about 100 yards after you cross Clark Creek, just north of the town of Hoodsport.
Public parking is available at the Hoodsport Hatchery. Please use extreme caution when crossing and walking along the highway. This beach is more safely accessed by boat.
Portable toilets may be available at the Hoodsport Hatchery during select fisheries. Hoodsport has stores and restaurants.
