PUGET SOUND COMMERCIAL SALMON FISHERIES REGULATION HOTLINE 2024-06, Week 35 Corrected, 08/23/2024 8:00 pm For the week beginning Sunday August 25 all areas are closed except as follows: Areas 7 B (Bellingham Bay) and 7 C (Samish Bay) will be open to: Gillnets using 5-inch minimum mesh size (7 B), and 7-inch minimum mesh size (7 C): Nightly 7 PM to 10 AM the following day: Sunday, August 25. Monday, August 26. Tuesday, August 27. Wednesday, August 28. Purse seines with a 5 inch strip: 6 AM to 8 PM the following days: Wednesday, August 28. Thursday, August 29. Brailing is required, and purse seines must release all sockeye and coho. Purse seines are asked to contact the Commercial Salmon Monitoring Program prior to fishing at 360-701-2215 for coverage information. Area 9 A (Port Gamble Bay) will be open to: Skiff gill nets with nets not to exceed 600 feet in length and 60 meshes in depth using 5-inch minimum mesh, is open continuously through 7 PM Saturday, November 2. All Chinook and chum must be released by cutting the ensnaring mesh. Area 12 A (Quilcene Bay) will be open to: Beach seines: 7 AM to 7 PM daily Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30. Beach seines may only retain coho and nets may not exceed 990 feet in length and 200 meshes in depth using minimum 3-inch and maximum 4-inch mesh. Area 7 and 7 A sockeye fisheries are controlled by the Fraser River Panel and are not posted on this hotline. Fishers should call the National Marine Fisheries Service Hotline at 1-800-662-9825 to get opening information on Fraser Panel fisheries. Fishers are reminded that a department issued Fish Friendly certification card is required to participate in any Area 7 or 7 A commercial salmon fisheries.
