This is an update for the Leadpoint wolf pack following the lethal removal authorization by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Director Kelly Susewind on Aug. 12, 2024.
On Aug. 12, 2024, WDFW Director Kelly Susewind authorized the lethal removal of up to two adult wolves from the Leadpoint pack in response to repeated cattle depredations in Stevens County. The authorization is consistent with the guidance of the state's Wolf Conservation and Management Plan and the lethal removal provisions of the Department's wolf-livestock interaction protocol (PDF).
Since June 28, 2024, the Department has documented a total of four depredations, resulting in two dead and two injured livestock in this pack territory.
As of Aug. 19, WDFW has not removed a wolf despite daily and continued efforts utilizing multiple different methods. The lethal removal authorization for this pack expires today, Aug. 19, 2024. There has not been a depredation in this pack territory since Aug. 2. The Department will now enter an evaluation period and staff will continue to monitor the situation.
