Ad-Hoc Non-native Gamefish and Fisheries Advisory Committee

This advisory group has been disbanded or is no longer active.

In December 2019, the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission submitted a blue sheet (PDF) to have staff develop a Non-native game Fish and Fisheries Policy.  WDFW formed the Ad-hoc Non-native Gamefish and Fisheries Advisory Committee in 2020 to engage the public and user groups from throughout Washington, increase communication and transparency in management, and get feedback on critical fisheries management decisions impacting the industry. The main task of the committee is to help advise the agency on developing a policy regarding the management of non-native fish species and their fisheries.

To inquire about the development and details of this policy, please contact the Commission office.

At the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, we celebrate diverse individuals who bring a wide range of perspectives. All are welcome to participate in our processes regardless of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, status as a veteran, and basis of disability.

Mission statement

The Ad-hoc Non-native Gamefish and Fisheries Advisory Committee will consult with fisheries managers and agency leadership and provide recommendations to the department with the objective of developing a policy that:

  • Supports the protection and recovery of native species
  • Systematically applies available science to what is known about non-nativespecies impacts on vulnerable native species and attempt to fashion fisheries that meet the needs and interests of non-native gamefish anglers where possible.
