The purpose of wildlife rehabilitation is to provide humane care and treatment of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife, incorporating all aspects of animal welfare with the goal of wild release or the relief of suffering.
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Advisory Group will advise the department on matters concerning wildlife rehabilitation and guide WDFW staff members and Washington wildlife rehabilitators on best practices regarding animal care, animal welfare, wildlife rehabilitation standards, and procedures that support wildlife rehabilitation as a public service.
The National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association/International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council Minimum Standards for Wildlife Rehabilitation Fourth Edition (PDF) is a guiding document for this group.
At the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, we celebrate diverse individuals who bring a wide range of perspectives. All are welcome to participate in our processes regardless of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, status as a veteran, and basis of disability.
